Prototype Process

Prototype Application Example: Sher-Mitt™ for Chili’s®

Request: Chili’s had a challenge to provide their cooks with a quick, effective method of ensuring against cross contamination when cooking burgers. Everything moves quickly in the kitchen and the untrained tendency is to grab several raw hamburger patties, put them on the grill, reach for the hamburger buns and put them on the grill for a light toasting; all without washing between steps. Chili’s request was to provide a means to protect the cooks’ hands for those few moments while handling raw meat and in a manner that would not slow the cooks during the cooking process.

Prepare Prototype: Pak-Sher Product Development (PD) spent time behind the grill with Chili’s evaluating the process and environment. It was quickly realized that a glove of sorts would be ideal, but that standard gloves in the industry would be too time consuming for the task. PD then came up with the unique idea of the Sher-Mitt and worked with Chili’s throughout the testing process.

Customer Approval: The Sher-Mitt is donned and discarded in fractions of a second making it an ideal solution. PD tweaked the sizing slightly and after a couple of iterations, the final prototype product was approved.

Production Begins: Pak-Sher customizes its equipment to meet special needs so its engineering department was accustomed to such requests as developing the “V” seal attachments for the Sher-Mitt. The timeline for manufacturing the new product was a short few months and met the customer’s expectations.
